As Lisa Macklin Property celebrates its first anniversary, its freshly appointed partners reflect on how women are changing the real estate landscape in a city once driven by men of steel.
Lisa Macklin has been working in the real estate industry for 27 years.
When she started, she was a young mum asked to be in the office five days a week, plus every Saturday.
The limited flexibility was tough on the whole family, she says.
“Now we’re creating a more flexible and family-focused environment. The workload can be excelled at without having to be a 9 to 5 position. At Lisa Macklin Property we’re providing a really great opportunity and flexibility for women and mothers, and we’re so supportive of each other.
“There’s no hierarchy in our office, we’re all on a level playing field. We all support one another – and that includes our families.”
Stephanie Jordan joined Lisa Macklin Property earlier in 2023 after its business plan appealed to her.
“It has a very supportive and collaborative culture; there’s no competitive tension and we are genuinely excited for each other’s successes,” she said.
Drawn to the industry seven years earlier, wanting more career enjoyment and flexibility, Stephanie found the role offered a chance to meet an array of people and see inside some incredible homes.
Finding a work-life balance in a sales role, she says is about being the master of your own schedule and managing time to fit commitments, or as she likes to say ‘You get out what you put in’.
“Real Estate was never on my radar,” says new Lisa Macklin Property partner Eliza Dunn.
“I started working here in a casual reception role while studying at university and realised that I really enjoyed working in the industry. That was over 14 years ago now and I have not looked back.”
As a mother of two young children, Eliza says she’s grateful to have never had to miss a Book Week Parade or Mother’s Day Breakfast.
“Our office does not have any of the big ego that you often see in this industry.
“Our team are all genuine, normal, family people who work hard to get really good results whilst prioritising treating people fairly and with respect.
“It is a really wonderful team that I am very proud to be a part of.”
If you ask Lisa Macklin Property partner Vanessa Beneke about working in the real estate field, she’ll tell you it’s an evolving industry.
After 14 years she still finds her role both challenging and rewarding.
Having an outgoing personality means meeting new people on a daily basis is something Vanessa loves the most. That and the job satisfaction she gets from helping clients meet their expectations.
“Having a young family, it is also very important to me that I can be there for the milestones and special occasions,” she says.
“I am so grateful I have the opportunity to balance my work and family life yet still provide the same service. With advanced technology these days, everything is always at our fingertips.
“We have a strong foundation of likeminded women who all excel in our own areas of the industry with the same end goal – to succeed together.”
