Busy morning for our ‘angels in the sky’

SHARE

It’s been a busy morning on the ground and in the sky for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service (WRHS) – with two major jobs in the space of an hour.

The chopper was tasked to the Upper Hunter about 7.20am on Wednesday 29 September, following reports a fully-loaded southbound coal train and a flatbed truck collided at a level crossing on Turanville Road, Scone.

NSW Ambulance paramedics began treatment on the 29-year-old male, who was pulled from his crushed cabin by a passer-by.

After being conveyed to Scone Hospital, he was met by the WRHS and its Critical Care Medical team.

The man was stabilised for serious chest injuries prior to being airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition.

Soon after, at 8.15am, the WRHS headed to a property at Morpeth, where a person suffered burns after an accelerant was thrown onto a fire.

“Local NSW Ambulance paramedics and our Critical Care Medical Team treated and stabilised a 48-year-old woman,” a spokesperson said.

“She was then airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a serious but stable condition with facial burns.”
