Councillor Tony Jarrett was elected as deputy mayor in one of the first items of business for the new term of Singleton Council this week.

In its maiden meeting of the new-look assembly, re-elected Singleton mayor Sue Moore led the Oath or Affirmations taken by each of the councillors to commit to representing the best interests of the community while in office.

The councillors are Cr Godfrey Adamthwaite, Cr Belinda Charlton, Cr Sue George, Cr Tony Jarrett, Cr Hollee Jenkins, Cr Mel McLachlan, Cr Tony McNamara, Cr Val Scott and Cr Danny Thompson.

Cr Moore said she was glad to be officially back to business as usual with a committed team making decisions for the betterment and progress of the Singleton local government area (LGA).

“I again congratulate all of the councillors elected to the chamber and look forward to continuing the productive teamwork and success that has become a hallmark of Singleton Council,” she stated.

“There was a great energy and enthusiasm at Tuesday night’s meeting, which bodes well for the next three years and what we’ll achieve together for the people of Singleton in this term.”

Cr Jarrett said he was happy to take the role as deputy mayor after being elected by his fellow councillors in an ordinary ballot.

The term of the deputy mayor will extend from the meeting until the day of the next ordinary election for Singleton Council in September 2024.

“I was overwhelmed and very pleased by the support I received from the other councillors,” Cr Jarrett said.

“I’m very much looking forward to working with the mayor as part of this team.

“And, to be facing the challenges and delivering for the community over the next three years.”
