A jam-packed activity program guaranteed to keep the kids amused this school holiday break is now open for bookings.
Lake Macquarie City Council lifelong learning and engagement coordinator Jessica Dowdell said the Lake Mac Winter Holiday Program included 17 planned activities across the City, from puppetry to paper illustration workshops.
“We’ve made the initiative accessible for all, with a range of free and low-cost sessions available at various times,” she explained.
“There are also some great exhibitions on show for the whole family to enjoy.”
Rathmines Theatre will host a puppet show on Monday 28 and Tuesday 29 June using three styles of puppetry to tell three classic fairy tales.
For art lovers, the Museum of Art and Culture (MAC) will host a large-scale pastel drawing workshop on Wednesday 30 June and Thursday 1 July.
Kids can put brush to canvas and express their creative flair in two separate age appropriate sessions.
Wangi Library Creative Hub will also run a hands-on branch-weaving workshop on Tuesday 6 July for ages eight and above, where youngsters create woven wall hangings in the colours of the Aboriginal flag to celebrate NAIDOC Week.
For the tech-obsessed, Edgeworth Memorial Neighbourhood Centre will provide children the opportunity to try their hand at coding, with Ozbots and engineering Snap circuits on Wednesday 30 June.
A Thursday 8 July Digital Animation Workshop at Charlestown Library will show kids aged nine and above how to write, shoot and edit a short claymation movie using the latest equipment.
This workshop will be run by an approved Creative Kids Provider.
Lake Macquarie City mayor Kay Fraser said there were some fantastic events on offer across the City.
“This is a great opportunity for kids to get creative, interact with others and make the most of their school holidays,” she added.
“There’s so much fun to be had in Lake Macquarie.”
The event program officially kicks off on Saturday 26 June with the book launch of Silly Yak at Belmont Library and runs until Sunday 11 July.
