Broke enjoys golden moment after award win

SHARE

After being the bridesmaid the past two years, Broke Fordwich is finally enjoying its own golden moment.

The much-loved region captured the top honours at the prestigious 2026 Top Tourism Town Awards.

It follows silver success in 2024 and 2025.

Strong public support helped push the historic district to victory in the population under 1,500 residents’ category.

Singleton mayor Sue Moore accepted the accolade on behalf of the community at the LGNSW Destination and Visitor Economy Conference in Maitland.

“We’re incredibly proud of Broke’s silver results over recent years, as one of the state’s best regional destinations, but it has been ready for its golden moment,” she said.

“And, now it’s here.

“It’s a village brimming with reasons to visit — history and heritage, arts and culture, incredible food and wine experiences, and plenty of country charm.

“To be acknowledged in these awards is a testament to the passion, authenticity and love that our local businesses, makers and community share with visitors to Broke.

“I’d like to also thank everyone who voted, as judging relied heavily on public support.”

Just two hours from Sydney and 15 minutes from Pokolbin, Broke Fordwich offers a slower pace than the region’s busier wine hubs — quieter, more personal and unforgettable.

Visitors can dine at hatted restaurants, explore sculpture parks and galleries, meet alpacas and artisan producers, or simply soak up the scenery by day and the five-million-star night sky by night – experiences that are resonating with visitors.

Broke has enjoyed an eight per cent increase in visitation over the past 12 months, delivering a flow on effect of a 10% boost to the local economy.

Cr Moore said the steady growth highlights the increasing appeal of Broke as a destination for travellers seeking authentic rural experiences.

“As regional and nature-based tourism continues to grow, Broke has everything people are looking for,” she added.

“Whether it’s a weekend escape or a longer stay to create lasting memories.

“This recognition will, I hope, encourage even more people to experience what Broke Fordwich has to offer.”

Broke was also a finalist in 2021, 2022 and 2023.
