The charming Hunter village of Broke has done it again, taking home second place in the Tiny Tourism Town category at the 2025 NSW Top Tourism Town Awards.
The winners were announced this week for towns with fewer than 1,500 residents at the LGNSW Destination and Visitor Economy Conference in the Tweed Shire.
Broke finished runner-up to the coastal offering of Huskisson, which claimed gold for a second consecutive year.
Singleton mayor Sue Moore said the award reinforced the Broke Fordwich region as a perfect place for a weekend escape.
“It might be known as the hidden gem of the Hunter Valley, but Broke is far from a well-kept secret,” she explained.
“It’s a village brimming with reasons to visit, including history and heritage, arts and culture, food and wine experiences, and plenty of country charm.”
The recognition comes just in time for the Broke BBQ Festival over the June long weekend.
The event – on Saturday and Sunday – promises live music, boutique beer, wine and spirits, cooking demos, kids’ activity zones and, of course, plenty of barbecuing.
Cr Moore thanked the community for its strong support in the town.
“Judging is relied on public support, so I commend everyone who cast their vote for Broke,” she said.
Cr Moore added Broke was also ready to welcome visitors looking for a memorable country experience.
“It has everything for a weekend getaway or a long stay for people of all ages to come together and create amazing memories.”
