Broadmeadow Magic, Newcastle Olympic FFA Cup games locked in

SHARE

Melbourne City will play their first competitive match since winning the A-League Men (ALM) grand final when they face former NSL powerhouse South Melbourne in their FFA Cup round of 32 clash on 12 November.

Cup fixtures have been postponed due to coronavirus outbreaks in NSW and Victoria but increased vaccination rates and plans to open up have enabled games to be rescheduled.

South Melbourne will host City at Lakeside Stadium – a week before the ALM season starts on 19 November – in one of the Cup’s most anticipated clashes.

The round of 32 and round of 16 in this year’s competition sees teams divided into regional zones, in a bid to limit the effect of border closures on the early rounds, before opening up in the quarter-finals.

Other major games include Broadmeadow Magic hosting Western Sydney at No2. Sportsground on Wednesday 10 November, from 7.30pm, and Sydney Olympic hosting Sydney FC on 24 November.

Newcastle Olympic welcomes Cup debutants Macarthur FC, also at No.2 Sportsground, on Saturday 13 November, at 6pm, the same day Blacktown City are due to stage Central Coast in Mudgee, subject to restrictions easing between Greater Sydney and regional NSW.

In the round of 16, holders Adelaide United will continue their Cup defence on Sunday when they face Adelaide Olympic, while Lions FC will meet Brisbane Roar on 24 October.

Due to border closures, the round of 32 clash between Victoria’s Avondale FC and Tasmania’s Devonport Strikers will be confirmed at a later date.

Play-off matches between Perth Glory and Melbourne Victory as well as Newcastle Jets and Western United are still yet to be scheduled.

Last year’s FFA Cup was cancelled.
