Bounty Hunters rocking it out for Roady4Roadies at Lizotte’s

Guitar virtuoso David Hinds can’t wait to take to the stage at Lizotte’s next weekend.

Like most musicians, he and wife Lyn, who front the Newcastle-based Bounty Hunters Band, have yearned for the return of “live” performances after their COVID-19 enforced hiatus.

So, when the invitation arrived to play for Roady4Roadies on Saturday 7 May, he was quick to accept.

“The past two years have been extremely tough on the entertainment industry,” Hinds said.

“All of our gigs just disappeared overnight.

“However, Lyn and I put the downtime to good use and concentrated on our songwriting.

“So, we’ll be recording the next Bounty Hunters Band album later this year for release on the MR Records label.

“But, for now, it feels amazing to be playing ‘live’ shows again and interacting personally with our fans and friends.

“We really missed that during lockdown.”

Bounty Hunters Band will join emcee Ross (Fergy) Ferguson, finalists from The Voice – Generations Ty and Eddie, new local outfit The Chris Cornell Concept and 10-year-old Central Coast prodigy LilG to support the more than 22,000 road crew members who have virtually gone without work since early 2020.

Many of them were forced to leave the industry they love, while others are still doing it tough.

Roady4Roadies is a national event to raise greater awareness of the critical roles they play, with all funds going directly to Support Act’s “Crew” Fund.

Already, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and Hobart have hosted gigs, with Brisbane, Sydney, Darwin and Newcastle taking part on 7 May.

“Roady4Roadies is extremely important to us because all proceeds go to CrewCare, which is an organisation who provides support to road crew members who have fallen on hard times financially or have medical issues,” Hinds said.

“These men and women are the unsung heroes and backbone of the ‘live’ music industry.

“Without them, the show does not go on.

“For them, as well as the musicians, the past two years has meant no performances.

“So, all of the artists playing at the Roady4Roadies events have donated their time.

“The Lizotte’s gig in Newcastle will be very special, as it’s hosted by the legendary Ross ‘Fergy’ Ferguson, who has worked for INXS, Little River Band, Tina Turner and Elton John, to name just a few.

“We (Bounty Hunters Band) are looking forward to being part of this great occasion.

“And, we’ve put together a rocking set of classic covers and originals.”

Roady4Roadies kicks off with a leisurely, neighbourhood walk followed by activities and entertainment.

Everyone’s invited to gather from about 10.30am at Newcastle’s beautiful Lambton Park for an 11am start.

Tickets, which are available from, are $20 (plus booking fee), while some merchandise will be available as well.

Entry includes water and sunscreen provided for the walk, with free finger food and music from noon at Lizotte’s to finish the day.

Retro guitar life with LilG

  • They say music is the language of the soul. It’s certainly true for LilG. Since taking up guitar in 2019, the 10-year-old has earned a notable reputation as a unique musician. LilG grew up listening to a variety of genres that have played an influential role in shaping her signature sound. Although tender in years, it is said that she boats an “old soul” and that is reflected in the music that she plays. For some, music is just a way to let out a little bit of energy, but for LilG it’s so much more than that – it’s a way of life. Her past appearances include regular busking on the Central Coast, a performance at the recent Blues by the Bay alongside Hussy Hicks, Steve Edmonds and Lachy Doley.

Ty and Eddie

  • Local father and son duo Ty and Eddie certainly did the region proud making the finals of The Voice Australia – Generations.

Bounty Hunters Band

  • The Newcastle/Sydney-based blues/rock power trio was formed by the husband-and-wife team of lead guitarist/vocalist David Hinds and lead vocalist/bass player Lyn Hinds in 2006. Glenn Baker is taking over the regular drumming duties of Mick O’Shea for this event. David’s background started in the ’70’s when he played in top Australian touring rock bands Rabbit and Finch/Contraband, releasing albums, appearing on TV shows Countdown, Sounds and Hey Hey It’s Saturday, and touring with the likes of Ted Mulry Gang, Dragon and Status Quo. Lyn played in bands in Sydney in the ’80’s including a residency at the Sydney Hilton. Mick has played in top Aussie rock bands such as Judge Mercy, Billy Thorpe, Rose Tattoo and Swanee. Bounty Hunters Band have released three full-length albums of original material – 2007’s self-titled Bounty Hunters, 2014’s Rise and 2016’s Rollercoaster, all distributed by MGM Distribution and available from JB HiFi, Sanity, Waterfront Records, Birdland Records and iTunes. A dance remix by Klubjumpers (USA) of their track Hot On Ya Heels was released to the US market in April 2017 and is available from CD Baby and iTunes USA. Music industry awards for Bounty Hunters Band include three Australian Independent Music Video Awards, Finalists in Musicoz, Global Battle Of The Bands and Foxtel’s Band Wars, winners of the Vibrations band competition in Sydney, Dolphin Entertainment Group (USA) Band Of The Year 2015, third place runner-up in the international Your Music Out Loud In The USA Song Competition 2016, second in the Stuart Epps Song Competition (UK) 2015, and first in the Rock/Indie and Live Performance categories at the 2016 Australian Songwriters Association Awards.

The Chris Cornell Concept

  • Born from a mutual love and respect for one of rock’s most revered and treasured icons, The Chris Cornell Concept is an outfit comprising some of Newcastle’s finest musicians. The band invites you to join them for a juggernaut performance of classic hits and deep cuts from the catalogues of the groups fronted by Chris Cornell including Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple Of The Dog. The Chris Cornell Concept boasts the talents of Kane Starkey – vocals, Lee Rolfe – guitar, Ross Flynn – guitar, Justin Ngariki – bass and Paolo Di Pietro – drums.
