There’s plenty of colour and excitement on the streets of Wallsend this week.
Locals, young and old, can enjoy story telling at its best when WOW Wallsend, the local Business Improvement Association, introduces its inaugural Book Week activation.
The organisation is aiming to bring Wallsend families to the area for three days of fun-filled activities.
There’ll be appearances from some of your favourite characters such as Snow White and Prince Charming, the Little Mermaid, Buzz Lightyear and Captain America at the main entry of Wallsend Village on Tuesday 9, Wednesday 10 and Thursday 11 November between 10am and 11am, as well as 3.30pm and 4.30pm.
“It’s not only for the little ones; it’s also for the young-at-heart,” Wallsend Business Improvement Association chair Wayne Rogers said.
“Now that COVID-19 lockdown is over, we are thrilled to be able to bring our local patrons back to Wallsend for fun events like Book Week 2021.
“Having kids involved in activations like this is very important to us.
“So, we’re looking forward to seeing all the excited faces as they meet their favourite book characters.”
Mr Rogers said Book Week 2021 was just the first of many sensational events facilitated by the association over the next couple of months.
But, next up, is Blokes Day on Friday 12 November between 11am and 1pm.
“It was originally scheduled for the Father’s Day weekend but we all know why that was cancelled,” he said.
“Newcastle Knights legend Robbie O’Davis will walk Nelson Street and Wallsend Village, giving out 100 vouchers from local businesses.
“This is a golden opportunity for people to have a photo taken with this local popular sports star.
“Other highlights in the pipeline include Fashion on the Footpath, Movies in Federal Park and the lighting of the Rotunda to kick start our festive season.”
