Body of missing Lake Mac man John Davidson found

A lengthy, and large-scale, search for missing Lake Macquarie man John Davidson has ended in tragedy.

It is understood a bushwalker, trekking through the Belmont Wetlands, near the Kalaroo Road Fire trails, discovered human remains, and personal belongings, on Saturday 1 July.

Police are confident the body is that of the 72-year-old Mount Hutton resident, who was last seen on Monday 7 November 2022, although the remains are yet to be formally identified.

Since his disappearance, detectives from Lake Macquarie Police District have undertaken several multi-agency operations involving local general duties and trail bike officers, PolAir, NSW SES volunteers, family and members of the community to locate him.

A number of state-wide public appeals for information were also made through the media and the NSW Police Force’s social media pages.

After the discovery at the weekend, officers from Lake Macquarie Police District established a crime scene.

The remains will now undergo forensic testing to confirm the identification.

A report will then be prepared for the information of the coroner.
