Body located in tragic aftermath to Lake Mac fire


In a tragic aftermath to a fire in Lake Macquarie this week, a body has been located during a search of the destroyed unit.

About 4.10am on Thursday 29 February, emergency services were a called to a block of apartments on Railway Street, Teralba.

Numerous Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews worked to extinguish the blaze.

However, the unit sustained significant damage.

Officers from Lake Macquarie Police District and the State Crime Command’s Arson Unit attended, starting inquiries into the incident.

Sadly, a body – yet to be formally identified – was located overnight.

It’s also believed a second person is missing.

Structural assessments continue to be made on the unit to ensure the structure is sound before the search can continue.

Inquiries into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
