The search for a missing teenager off the Central Coast has ended in tragedy on Monday morning.
Emergency services were called to Norah Head about 8.15pm on Sunday 23 November.
They received information four friends were on a sand bar, off the Soldiers Beach Surf Life Saving Club, when it collapsed.
While a 16-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man managed to get back to shore, two others, both aged 18, weren’t so fortunate.
The pair was swept into the water, although two surfers rescued one of the duo.
A search was then initiated involving officers attached to Tuggerah Lakes Police District, assisted by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service (WHRS) crew, Marine Area Command and Marine Rescue NSW.
But, they were unsuccessful.
The search was suspended at 11.30pm, with patrols on foot of the foreshore continuing throughout the night, and resumed about 7am on Monday 24 November, involving the same resources.
Sadly, the body of a man was located by police divers at 10.45am.
While a formal identification process is yet to be completed, it’s believed to be that of the missing swimmer.
A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
