Members of the Belmont Country Women’s Association (CWA) donned their most glamourous hats recently to lend a hand to the NSW Cancer Council.

The organisation hosted a Mad Hatter’s High Tea as part of its annual Biggest Morning Tea festivities.

Guest speaker Sue Russell, from the NSW Cancer Council, spoke about the importance of early detection and getting regular health checks in order to improve survival rates from all types of cancer.

She also discussed how the group was funded and how donations are distributed.

“A wonderful morning tea was provided for all,” Belmont CWA secretary/publicity officer Dianne Davis said.

“The day continued with games and competitions, including those involving tea cosies and mad hatters.

“In the end, more than $400 was raised for the NSW Cancer Council.”

Winners were selected by popular vote, with several Highly Commended awards being presented as well.

In the tea cosy section, first prize was won by Leigh Coates with her bee hive creation, with second going to Catherine Quinn with a rabbit tea Cosy.

A mushroom fairy house also enabled Ms Coates to secure third spot.

The best hat categories were collected by Nadia Lidbury and Dorothy Wright.
