The Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation (HBCF) recently unveiled its novel BBQ for Boobs campaign, encouraging people to grill for charity.
Local businesses are being urged to fire up the “barbie” and donate money normally spent on lunch to families impacted by the insidious disease.
The initiative kicked off in style last week at The Station in Newcastle, featuring My Kitchen Rules contestant Deb Szabo, who’s helping raise funds – and awareness – for the organisation.
People can take part in BBQ for Boobs from now until the end of November.
The funds received from the campaign will stay within the Hunter, providing services such as transport to treatment, house cleaning and lawn maintenance for those diagnosed with breast cancer and their families.
HCBF fundraising, events and marketing coordinator Josh Lawlor said the program was extremely important to the local community.
“BBQ for Boobs is more than just a fundraiser,” he explained.
“It’s a way for everyone to come together and make a tangible difference in the lives of families facing breast cancer.
“With the support of local businesses, we can continue to provide essential services that help alleviate the burden of a diagnosis.
“We’re thrilled to see workplaces across the Hunter region fire up their barbecues for such a meaningful cause.”
To boost participation, Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation is offering anyone who hosts a BBQ and shares it on social media – tagging HCBF and sponsor Peoplefusion – a chance to win a new BBQ for their workplace.
Peoplefusion director and HCBF representative Sally Bartley is thrilled about the partnership for the campaign.
“We’re dedicated to supporting meaningful causes through both financial contributions and active volunteering,” she said.
“In a technology-driven era, we recognise the importance of reconnecting with core values by promoting wellness in the workplace, raising awareness and celebrating a vital community event with a traditional Aussie BBQ.”
