Bartholomew’s unveils new dining era in Newcastle

SHARE

Bartholomew’s Newcastle has entered a new chapter following a major renovation and repositioning of the historic CBD venue.

Located inside a former Methodist theatre, Bartholomew’s has shifted away from its late-night bar identity to become a food-focused restaurant, cocktail bar and functions space.

The refreshed concept is designed to offer a more complete dining experience, giving guests the option to settle in for a long lunch, enjoy dinner and cocktails, or celebrate a special occasion.

The team behind the venue said the aim was to create a destination that felt impressive while remaining relaxed and welcoming.

“We wanted it to feel impressive, but still relaxed and welcoming,” the team said.

The renovation draws on the building’s history and character, with candlelight, rich colours, impressionist artworks and an old-world atmosphere shaping the updated interior.

A new European-inspired menu has also been introduced, with dishes built around sharing, generous flavours and a more social style of dining.

The drinks offering remains a major focus, with Bartholomew’s continuing to showcase an extensive collection of whisky, gin, wine and cocktails.

The venue’s transformation also expands its appeal as a destination for private events and celebrations.

Bartholomew’s is available for weddings, birthdays, corporate events and full-venue functions, offering a central Newcastle location within one of the city’s most distinctive historic buildings.

The repositioning reflects a broader move towards all-day and early-evening dining, while retaining the atmosphere and drinks selection that helped establish the venue.

For the team, the next chapter is about building on Bartholomew’s history while creating a new reason for locals and visitors to return.

“A century of gathering. A new era of dining.”
