Back pain trial

Chronic low back pain affects one in six Australians and is a leading cause of disability in Australia.

Living with pain has a huge impact on an individual’s health, and people who suffer lower back pain don’t always know how to access help.

Hunter New England Population Health’s musculoskeletal health team is working with University of Newcastle and Hunter Medical Research Institute to change how people think about their back pain and treatment options.

They have launched a collaborative trial with John Hunter Hospital called the HeLP Program for Low Back Pain.

It will focus on many aspects of a participant’s health and will consider the individual’s pain in conjunction with their overall health.

Research Fellow and Program Lead, Dr Chris Williams, believes programs like these are the future of health care.

The HeLP program is open to people who have had low back pain for more than three months and struggle with weight, activity smoking, or healthy eating.

Contact the musculoskeletal health team at [email protected] if you would like more information or to be involved in the program.
