Staff and students who attended an athletics carnival in Glendale last Tuesday are urged to watch for symptoms of COVID-19 and get tested.

It comes after NSW Health confirmed the Hunter Sports Centre at Glendale was associated with a confirmed case of the virus.

“A number of public school staff and students visited that venue on Tuesday 3 August between 9.30am and 12.30pm to participate in the Crossroads Zone Athletics Carnival,” the department of education said in a statement.

“The confirmed case has not attended any of the participating schools and there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in these schools.

“However NSW Health has advised that all students and staff who attended the Crossroads Zone Athletics Carnival during this time are classified as a ‘casual contact’.”

Anyone who attended the carnival is now required to present for testing and self-isolate until they receive a negative result.

“Schools have this morning contacted all impacted students and staff. Families who have concerns are asked to contact their school for clarification,” the department said.

“The sports carnival was an approved activity in line with COVID-safe guidelines in place on 3 August.

“The safety and wellbeing of our staff and students is of paramount importance to us at all times.

“We continue to work closely with NSW Health to ensure the health and safety of all students and staff is maintained.”
