Art Systems Wickham is celebrating its 10th year of business in 2019.

The gallery has, to date, held 170 exhibitions showcasing more than 600 talented local Newcastle and Hunter Valley artists.

Its annual You’ll Fest Christmas exhibition regularly brings together 40-plus artists to exhibit and sell their work during the festive period.

The gallery comes alive with a variety of painting, sculpture, ceramic printmaking, and mixed media work.

Gallery director and owner, Colin Lawson, says, “I am indebted to all my artist colleagues who have supported the gallery and have been a part of the gallery’s regular artist stable. Some have been with me since the early days and return to exhibit new work every second year or so.”

The gallery has also introduced many new names to the public.

Lawson says, “I am often approached by new artists and am always looking for new talent.”

Memorable shows of note over the years, to name a few, have been by Francis ‘Frank’ Celtlan, Michael Bell, Kerrie Coles, John Turier, Brett McMahon, Peter Lankas, Susan Ryman and Peter Speight.

The current exhibition titled Landscape Metaphors is by Vlasé and Judi Nikoleski and continues until 4pm Sunday 9 June.

The exhibition showcases sculpture by Vlasé and textiles by Nikoleski.

The next exhibition is titled Strangers in Paradise – new work by Shelagh Lummis – from Friday 14 to Sunday 23 June.

Art Systems Wickham (ASW) is situated at 40 Annie Street, Wickham. Gallery hours are 11am to 4pm, Friday to Sunday.

The gallery is located close to the Honeysuckle precinct and Newcastle’s bustling harbour and is available to successful applicants, both artists and curators.
