Appeal to ID driver of stolen car which led police on merry chase

SHARE

Inquiries are continuing to identify the driver of a stolen car, which was seen driving dangerously through the Hunter and Central Coast on Tuesday afternoon.

Police tried to stop a 2020-model silver Lexus station wagon at Charlestown about 3.30pm on 26 April.

However, the driver did not obey their commands when directed but instead drove on the wrong side of the road.

Officers from several commands continued to monitor the vehicle’s progress through Lambton, Broadmeadow, Waratah and surrounding suburbs until about 5pm when it was found abandoned at a shopping centre on Blue Gum Road at Jesmond.

The car has been preserved for forensic examination as inquiries continue to identify the driver and any passengers.

The vehicle was reported stolen from Merewether between Monday 11 and Tuesday 12 April.

Police are continuing investigations to identify people believed to be associated with the stolen vehicle and crimes throughout the Hunter region.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Newcastle Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
