Another charged over Pokolbin winery break-ins

Police have charged a third person following an extensive investigation into alleged break and enter incidents in Pokolbin.

It comes after several property offences were reported at numerous wineries and businesses in the Cessnock LGA, including the theft of alcohol, electronics, jewellery, crystals and gemstones.

Officers attached to Hunter Valley Police District took part in Operation Ferment.

As a result, a 32-year-old woman and a man, 31, were arrested earlier in the month.

Both remain before the courts.

Then, about 10.30am on Friday 20 March, police were patrolling Rawson Street, Aberdare, when they allegedly sighted a male, wanted on an outstanding warrant, enter a home.

During a search of the property, they located and seized two stolen motorbikes and approximately 4.71g methamphetamine.

A 34-year-old man was arrested, taken to Cessnock Police Station and charged with seven counts of aggravated break and enter dwelling etc in company steal (less than $60,000); possess prohibited drug; and goods in personal custody suspected being stolen (m/v).

An outstanding warrant was also executed for alleged knife, drug and bail-related offences.

After being formally refused bail, he’ll appear before Cessnock Local Court on Wednesday 8 April.

Operation Ferment continues in the Pokolbin area.
