The Newcastle Jets continue to bolster their A-League Women’s (ALW) playing stocks with another two crucial signings.
Talented defender Ava Piazza will join the Hunter club for the next couple of seasons while Chloe Walandouw has inked a scholarship deal for 2024/25.
After appearing for Canberra United in 2023/24, and previously being selected for Young Matildas’ training camps, the former ACT player is eager to progress her career with the Jets.
“I’m incredibly thrilled to be working under Ryan (Campbell) and very excited for the season ahead,” Piazza said.
“I can’t wait to meet all my new teammates.
“Seeing the support the girls received last season, I’m keen to play in front of the fans here in Newcastle.”
Campbell welcomed Piazza to the fold.
“Ava is another young player who demonstrates a lot of the characteristics that we are looking for,” he said.
“She has experience playing in the A-League Women’s competition and spent time training with overseas clubs throughout the break.
“Her striking of the ball is a key strength, which is something that’s important in order to play the possession-based game that we are hoping to implement.
“I am looking forward to seeing her potentially play alongside Tash Prior.”
Meanwhile, Walandouw re-joins Campbell’s squad after spending the 2024 NSW NPL season with the club’s Academy side.
The 18-year-old defender made five appearances for the Jets in 2022/23.
“After working through the Academy, I’m feeling grateful to have been afforded this opportunity,” she said.
“I’m sure I’ll thrive in the competitive environment.
“So, I’m determined to give my all this season to prove to both myself and the coaches that I belong at this level.”
Campbell was equally delighted to secure Walandouw.
“Chloe has worked extremely hard throughout the NPL season in our Academy to earn this chance,” he said.
“Her technical ability is sound, which allowed her to snare the Player of the Season award for our Academy first grade team.
“With a solid pre-season and all the support she can receive in our professional environment, Chloe has the potential to be a very important player for the club moving forward.”
