AGL Liddell, Bayswater encourage employees to shop local this Christmas

SHARE

With Christmas and the holiday season just around the corner, AGL’s Liddell and Bayswater power stations are helping employees spend big with local businesses.

The company will provide $30,000 worth of vouchers to splurge in the Upper Hunter, Singleton and Muswellbrook.

We Live Here gift cards have been purchased from Why Leave Town, an organisation encouraging Australians to shop in their local areas.

AGL chief operating officer Markus Brokhof said AGL’s participation in the initiative was a way of showing their support for employees and the community this Christmas.

“We know businesses right across our region have had a challenging 18 months with the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns,” he explained.

“We are proud to live and work in the communities of the Upper Hunter, Singleton and Muswellbrook.

“So, we’re committed to supporting business recovery into the new year.

“The Why Leave Town program is a great way to do that.

“We can help businesses to get back up and running while also providing some Christmas cheer to our people.

“As restrictions ease and we return to a level of normality, we want to ensure that our community benefits and that spending stays local.

“As a member of this community, I have been so proud to witness how everyone has worked together to keep people safe.

“I’m looking forward to seeing our employees enjoying a safe and happy holiday season ahead.”

Muswellbrook Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) member services manager Wayne Toms said the organisation was pleased to recognise the contribution by AGL and its employees through its Making Muswellbrook program.

“The past two years have been very tough on many local businesses,” he stated.

“So, the injection into the local economy through the gift cards will provide a much-needed boost to those trying to rebuild from the recent lockdowns and restrictions.”

The Making Muswellbrook program is an initiative of the MCCI that recognises individuals, businesses, groups and organisations for playing their part in making Muswellbrook a great place to call home.

The Singleton Business Chamber also welcomed AGL’s stance to assist retailers in the region.
