Adam Shultz likely to become new Lake Macquarie mayor

Less than one week after Lake Macquarie Mayor Kay Fraser announced she’d be retiring at the Local Government election in September, Councillor Adam Shultz has been preselected unopposed as her replacement.

Cr Shultz will be looking to build on the success experienced under Mayor Kay Fraser’s leadership.

“I have been overwhelmed by the encouragement I have received from colleagues on Council and our local branch members and I thank them for their strong support,” Cr Shultz said.

“This is a unique opportunity for renewal and I want to build on Kay’s legacy as Mayor of Lake Macquarie.

“I have lived in Lake Macquarie my whole life. I am a born and bred local, having grown up in Warners Bay, and my wife and I are now raising three young children in Lake Macquarie.

“I know firsthand the issues families are facing and what they need from their council.”

Cr Shultz says his list of priorities as Mayor include:

• Continuing to invest in and improve our local playgrounds, parks, recreational facilities and public open spaces;

• Encourage businesses to set up in Lake Macquarie so that residents can live, work and play here;

• Getting the most out of the lake and our beaches by continuing to invest in public infrastructure improvements surrounding our world-renowned wonderful natural assets;

• Work with the Council administration and our workers to ensure that Lake Macquarie City Council remains the collaborative, innovative and sustainable organisation that is respected by our residents and ratepayers.

“I know I have the experience, energy and skills to serve our community as Mayor of Lake Macquarie and I will work hard to ensure the continued success of residents and businesses in our area,” Cr Shultz said.
