Go back to a bodacious time when hair was big, legs were warm, the rock was glam, and people spoke a whole other language.
To a period where every dude was totally down to not have a cow and get freaked out and take a chill pill because the music was dope, the bomb, gnarly, legit, and like, totally mental.
For the first time in Newcastle, welcome to Los Angeles and Rock of Ages.
Set in 1987 on the Sunset Strip, a small-town girl meets a big-city dreamer – and, in LA’s most legendary rock club, they fall in love to the greatest songs of the 1980s.
It’s an hilarious, feel-good, rock n’ roll love story told through hit songs such as I Want to Know What Love Is, Don’t Stop Believin’, The Final Countdown and We Built This City by iconic rockers like Foreigner, Journey, Styx, Poison, Starship, Pat Benatar, Whitesnake, and more.
Australian pop-rock icon Deni Hines plays the role of Justice, the owner of a Venus club.
She will headline an outstanding local cast of 19 actors and singers.
Hines, who has been living in Thailand for the past two years, is excited to return to the Hunter Region and the Civic Theatre, where she starred in Jesus Christ Superstar more than 20 years ago.
She says Rock of Ages will be a fresh challenge.
Her character relates to Sherrie, the small-town girl, and her story.
So, she takes her in.
“Justice has fallen into a world that she is really proud of and strong about,” Hines tells Newcastle Weekly.
“She really cares about her girls but doesn’t take any rubbish; there’s not much you can shock her with.”
Rock of Ages will be directed by Newcastle-based director/producer Daniel Stoddart, with musical director Dan Wilson and choreography by James Tolhurst and Rachel Wilson.
There are three shows only; the first starts at 8pm on Friday 19 July, followed by two more at 2pm and 8pm on Saturday 20 July.
Tickets available through Ticketek.
