Wickham warehouse conversion ‘one of a kind’

It’s been a panel beater’s workshop, an electronics factory, and a recording studio where famous Australians Olivia Newton-John, the Leyland Brothers, and Australian Crawl documented their talents.

Since then, 78 Robert Street has become a home that continues to draw attention thanks to what its agent describes as a one-of-a-kind conversion.

Nestled in the trendy suburb of Wickham, the former warehouse has taken its past and transformed itself now owning a timeless vibe, with each owner of the property adding a small piece of the uber-cool puzzle.

For current owner Tess, it was the home’s proximity to the harbour that first caught her eye, the keen rower loved having access to the city’s main waterway within walking distance.

Not to mention the cafes, restaurants, and shops of Beaumont Street.

“The offer of inner-city living was so appealing,” she says.

“And, the open plan living made it feel so spacious.”

In her six years of calling the four-bedroom, three-bathroom loft-style address “home”, Tess enhanced its appeal by adding a courtyard, wooden beams, built-in robes, security and shutters, as well as the addition of a Dazzers Graphix artwork in the adjoining laneway.

And, while its appeal rests in its low-maintenance, crisp, clean finishes, minimalist style, and creative layout, for her it will be the functionality that she will miss the most.

“The kitchen. I love to cook, and this kitchen has such great storage, its gas, and its central to the whole home.

“I can be cooking and have the whole place open and enjoy the flow it has with the outside.”
