When she missed out on having the home ready for sale by Christmas, real estate agent Shanti Page decided to put up a “For Sale” sign at the front of 39 Ocean View Parade to at least let passers-by know it was coming to market early in the new year.
The elderly owners had died, and their son was kept busy sorting through 60 years of living, delaying his pre-festive season deadline.
The attention that the Caves Beach home drew in that fortnight, however, was more than Shanti had expected.
“It’s been overwhelming, and enquiries have come from all over,” she stated.
“We’ve had some locals say they believe it’s got good bones that could be played with, others love the larger land size, and some Sydneysiders are looking at its earning potential.”
The sign only exacerbated what had been in the wings for years.
“This is one property we have all been waiting on and hoping for years would come on the market,” Shanti says.
“So many locals and out-of-towners alike have called us over the years to ask if the owners would sell, they’ve letter box dropped the owners and door knocked them direct too but, until now, the family has always said no, saying they’d never leave unless it was to go out in a box and true to their word, this is what’s happened.
“One owner homes really let you know there is something very special about living in them.
“You don’t stay in the one house for 60-odd years unless the location and the lifestyle are just too good to leave.”
The three-bedroom, one-bathroom property is thought to have been built in the early 1950s.
“A grand old home in her day, this property was custom-built for the owners to embrace the views and ocean breezes,” Shanti says.
“Unlike many homes of the time, the living was designed to be open and free flowing, with lots of windows to drink in the views out to Spoon Rocks beach and [the] break wall and a great stretch of the Pacific Ocean.
“The owners kicked back indoors in their open plan living and kitchen and outdoors on their wrap around return verandah and back deck, watching ships twinkling out on the horizon and listening to and watching the waves roll in.
“They walked daily to their choice of beaches and you can, too.”
39 Ocean View Parade, Caves Beach is being managed by Sold Real Estate and will auction onsite on 4 February at noon.
